Understanding Dental Bridges
When a tooth is lost, a patient can lose the ability to chew effectively and smile with confidence. In addition, the surrounding teeth gradually drift toward the space and gums can become irritated. A dental bridge fills that gap with a lifelike porcelain replacement that rests on a supportive framework. By replacing missing teeth, bridges prevent bite collapse and make daily activities, like speaking clearly and enjoying your favorite foods, much easier.
The most common design uses two crowns placed on the teeth adjacent to the space. Between them sits the pontic, crafted to match the shape and shade of your natural enamel. Modern ceramics allow light to pass through the restoration much like real tooth structure, so your new smile blends seamlessly.

Types of Bridges We Offer
- Traditional Porcelain Bridge – Durable, tooth‑colored crowns joined to a central pontic; ideal for single‑tooth gaps where both neighboring teeth need crowns anyway.
- Cantilever Bridge – Supported on only one side; used sparingly when anatomy or aesthetics make other options impractical.
- Maryland (Resin‑Bonded) Bridge – A conservative design that bonds a porcelain wing to the backs of adjacent teeth with minimal enamel removal; best for front‑tooth replacement in younger patients.
- Implant‑Supported Bridge – Anchored to dental implants rather than natural teeth, preserving healthy enamel and helping maintain jawbone density. Excellent for spans of three or more missing teeth.

Ready to close the
gap in your smile?
The Treatment Process Step‑by‑Step
- Consultation & Planning – We evaluate the gap, take digital iTero® scans, and determine which bridge type best meets your needs.
- Tooth Preparation – Neighboring teeth are shaped conservatively to receive crowns or other anchorage.
- Digital Impressions & Temporary Bridge – High-definition digital scans are taken of the teeth insuring a precise fit. These scans are sent to our lab, and a provisional appliance is placed to protect your smile while the final bridge is fabricated.
- Final Placement – About two weeks later, we remove the temporary, try in the final bridge, verify bite alignment, and bond everything firmly into place.
The entire procedure is performed under local anesthesia for your comfort, and most patients return to work or school the same day.
Caring for Your Bridge & Ensuring Longevity
A bridge can last 10–15 years, or longer, when supported by excellent oral hygiene and routine dental checkups. Because the pontic sits just above the gumline, plaque can accumulate underneath if not cleaned properly. Floss threaders, interdental brushes, or water flossers slip beneath the bridge to sweep away debris.
Avoid biting ice or extremely hard foods, especially during the first few days as you adjust. If you grind or clench at night, a custom nightguard will shield both the bridge and opposing teeth from excessive pressure.
Finally, keep an eye on your gum health. Redness or bleeding around the supporting teeth can signal inflammation that could compromise the restoration. Prompt professional care preserves the foundation and extends the life of your bridge.

FAQ
How long will my dental bridge last?

With attentive home care and regular cleanings, most porcelain bridges last well over a decade.
Is a bridge better than an implant?

Both restore function; implants preserve bone and don’t rely on neighboring teeth. During the consultation, we’ll compare the advantages of all your options so that we can make the best decision for treatment.
Will eating feel normal?

Yes. After a brief adjustment period, your bite should feel natural and comfortable.
Does insurance cover bridges?

Most insurance plans provide partial coverage; our team will estimate your benefits and discuss financing options.
